Workshop on Food Security |
The People Right Forum, Assam organized one daylong workshop on Food Security at Tezpur University on November 5th 2011 where DCDP also collaborated with PAJHRA and The East. The faculty of Tezpur University facilitated on the Global scenario on the Food security. In the present context the food items in the hotel, dhaba is become more compatible and modernized. Varieties of food items are available in different occasion in the hotel, dhaba and restaurant with different prices. All these are the luxurious food and these are not familiar with the rural people even if poor people cannot effort of this. Other hand the poor people always striving for food, clothes and shelter for which the Government adopted policy and under taking different schemes to alleviate weaker section and providing opportunity for the rural area where poor people can improve their living condition and reduce the ratio of the below poverty line.
But in view of that, the Government schemes are not much practically reached in the ground reality so far. There are so many problems, anomalies, corruptions are hindering and still poor and marginalized people are suffering for their rights.
Looking to the situation, Peoples Right Forum, Assam conducted series of workshop at state level for the NGOs and updated various information related to National Food schemes for sharing with the community in the respective areas. So far most of the NGOs conducted workshop on Right to Food at their respective areas and educated people on RTI-act, NSSS, NREGA/NREGP and PDS.
During this workshop the following decision was taken to approach Government department for effective functioning of Public Distribution System, and implementation of other Government schemes.

Each NGO should cooperate to the community during BPL survey at their respective area |

Data & other RTI related documents to be collected from the RTI activist by the respective NGOs. |
• |
Each NGO should provide Data of BPL survey and records and status of Ration shop/ PDS centre/ ICDS Centre/mid day meal in the school. |
Mr. Kretofil Bhengra represented DCDP at this important workshop.

District Level Workshop on Right to Food |
District Community Development Programme (DCDP) organized 2 days workshop on Right to Food at Biswanath Chariali, Sonitpur, Assam on December, 28-29th 2011. The objective of the programme was to strengthen and promote women’s Federation call Kanaklota Mohila Mancha and Right to Food forum in addressing the issue of Food insecurity. There are altogether 73 participants (Male 42 and Female 31) from Kanaklota Mohila Mancha & Right to Food Forum including DCDP staff/ Volunteers participated in the meeting. The following decisions are adopted after prolong discussions on the issues and information collected by RTI activist which are hampering to the underprivileged and poor people in the entire Sonitpur, District.

A Memorandum to be submitted to the Honorable Deputy commissioner, Sonitpur, jointly by the Kanaklota Mohila Mancha & Right to Food Forum for the following consideration and necessary action. |

Regularization of PDS by the Food & Civil Supply department. |
• |
Proper implementation of National Rural Guarantee Programme implemented by the Block Development office and Gram Panchyat. |
• |
One day Meeting at Panchyat level at each Panchyat under Chaiduar Block Development & Biswanath Block to be organized and completed by the end of March-2012. Panchyat Representatives and leaders from Village Development Committee to be involved in the meeting where the entire respective job card holders to be invited and shared their views & issues. |

She is a widow brought from the street. Her name is Romba Paik, age is about 60. She could not pronounce properly about her address and her family details so could not know about her address. She came from Gohpur 3 days before to see her relatives according to her statement. 2-3 days she was walking here and there and spent the night at road side, School Veranda, paddy field without food and clothes. On December 14th 2011 at 7:00am she was found by Sri. Jiten Borpujari one of volunteer of DCDP that a old women is lying on the roadside in a small jungle nearby Rongajan River at Bheluadanga without having warm cloth. He came to near and asked her about her background. In that moment Jiten Borpujari informed to Sri. Kretofil Bhengra, CEO, DCDP and narrated the fact. Meanwhile Mr. Bhengra took initiative to take her at the centre of Karunalaya, Tezpur. Mr. Bhengra call Asha worker of Bheluadanga for helping in washing of this old women, Mr. Bhengra asked his wife Mrs. Renu Devi Bhengra to provide warm & wearing cloth. Asha worker Mrs Premi Tirkey, Mrs Renu Devei Bhengra and Ms Susistra Hemrom came forward and washed in a bath of this widow. After taking bath food was provided but she could not eat properly. Later on same day we took her at Karunalaya, Dhonua Nagar, Tezpur and handed over to the Sisters and Mother care under Missionaries of Charity. Her life is rescued and She received a new life. |

Quilts Distribution at Tezpur Orphan Home |
District Community Development Programme (DCDP) distributed 110 nos quilts to 110 Orphanages on December 17th 2011 at Korunaloy under Missionaries of Charity, Dhonua Nagar Tezpur, Sonitpur, Assam where Superintendant of Police, Sonitpur District invited for inauguration of distribution. Mr. Denish Yem one of the Church Leader volunteered during distribution. Missionaries of Charity appreciate CASA for supporting the Quilts.

Quilts distributed by DCDP among the orphan children at Gilgal children home, Shakomato Christian Centre, Biswanath Chariali under Sonitpur Baptist Christian Association in the presence of respected Mr. Gajilal Tosa, President of North Bank Baptist Christian Association and Mr. Upen Kumar Executive Secretary SBCA on February 13, 2012 which was supported by CASA, Guwahati. |

Mosquito Net Distribution |
DCDP distributed 340 nos medicated mosquito net to 340 families at Bheluadanga Village on February 1st 2012 in cooperation with Bheluadanga Village Development Committee and 370 families at Karibil Sapori village in cooperation with Karibil Sapori Village Development Committee on February 8th 2012. The mosquito net was supported by Malaria department of Gohpur civil Hospital under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
